“Live-In Caregiver” means a person who provides, without supervision, in a private household in Canada in which the person resides, childcare, senior home support care or care of the disabled. In addition to the normal Immigration requirements, a person outside Canada seeking an employment authorization as a live-in caregiver in a private household in Canada must meet all of the following requirements:

  • Successful completion of secondary school equivalent to Canadian standards grade 12 (High School)

  • Successful completion of six months full-time formal training in a field or occupation related to the employment for which the employment authorization is sought (this training may be completed in a classroom setting as part of the course of study referred to in the top paragraph)

  • Completion of one year of related full time paid employment, including at least six months of continuous employment with one employer, within the three years immediately prior to the day on which the person submits an application for an employment authorization.

  • The ability to speak read and understand either the English or French language at a level sufficient to communicate effectively in an unsupervised situation.
